What is Pilates?

Pilates is a unique method of exercise designed to improve strength and flexibility. The movements are flowing and controlled with emphasis on training core stability and balancing muscle systems.

Why do Pilates?

People come to Pilates with different goals. Some to increase fitness and tone their bodies, some to address back pain and injuries, others to counterbalance a stressful lifestyle, or to improve their posture and flexibility. Pilates recognises the individual, so that anyone can benefit regardless of skill, age or injury.

What happens in a Pilates session?

Clients begin their training with a series of one-to-one sessions where initially they discuss their goals and needs with an instructor. Then follows a postural assessment and teaching of the basic principles of Pilates. On completion of the introductory course, clients will have a tailormade programme and be ready to progress to group sessions. Here they will continue mastering their exercises under the guidance of an instructor.

Each group session has a maximum of four clients. All training sessions are an hour long and booked in blocks. It is also possible to remain on a one-to-one training basis. To do Pilates wear comfortable clothes and socks.
